DATAFORT completes AI automation project to help BHUK Group grow its accountancy practice

A prototype created by a BHUK employee using Claude provided the starting point for a business system prompted by UK government’s Making Tax Digital initiative.

Guildford, Surrey — AI development firm DATAFORT has successfully completed its inaugural project for home counties accountancy firm, BHUK Group. The initiative integrates AI into a dedicated workflow platform designed to streamline BHUK’s ‘Making Tax Digital’ processes and support the group’s expansion strategy.

The project originated within BHUK when employee Hannah O’Grady used Claude Code to build a prototype demonstrating the practice’s operational requirements. The resulting app, which runs on clients’ Android or iOS devices, manages KYC (Know Your Customer) workflows, sends missing document reminders, and enables direct receipt and bank statement capture via mobile camera. An AI-backed web portal then collates submitted documents, evaluates financial data, and provides practice management with a centralized, real-time overview of client deadline preparedness. This automation frees staff to focus on strategic business development.

DATAFORT engineered the underlying infrastructure required to bring the prototype to full operational scale, implementing data architecture, access controls, security protocols, and workflow automation for live client data. The build was grounded in BHUK’s established accounting framework and intended client journey.

Making Tax Digital served as the immediate catalyst for the project. By automating recurring record requests and follow-up messaging, BHUK aims to reduce routine administration and offer a smoother client experience.

The completed platform unifies automated document requests, client submission tools, and a central progress dashboard, providing staff with clear visibility into outstanding submissions and priority cases. AI features assist in reading submitted documents, categorizing transactions within BHUK’s framework, and drafting profit-and-loss statements. A red-amber-green traffic-light system flags unrecognised or uncertain entries for human review, ensuring BHUK accountants retain full oversight and final approval.

“BHUK’s team laid critical groundwork by translating their operational expertise into a functional prototype,” said Marcie Terman, Business Development Director at DATAFORT. “Our role was to transform that concept into a secure, production-ready system capable of handling sensitive financial data—giving the team capacity to grow while maintaining professional control.”

The project demonstrates a practical model for business process automation: internal staff contribute domain expertise through AI-assisted prototyping, and DATAFORT provides the engineering needed to deploy robust, enterprise-grade software.
