Relativity, a global leader in legal technology, has unveiled its latest AI-powered document review solution, Relativity aiR for Review, at Relativity Fest London. This innovative tool, slated for general release in Q3 2024, promises to revolutionize the speed, precision, and quality of document reviews. Its launch will impact customers across nine regions, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, and Switzerland.
Phil Saunders, CEO of Relativity, underscored the transformative potential of Relativity aiR for Review during his keynote address. “Beyond the speed-to-insights that Relativity aiR for Review offers, its precision is what makes this solution a game changer,” he stated. “We’re thrilled to introduce these capabilities to the EMEA region, fundamentally transforming the review process and elevating quality and impact to unprecedented levels.” Since its limited availability launch in January, over 40 customers have utilized the tool, contributing to hundreds of document analyses across more than 100 cases. The initial feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting significant improvements in efficiency, consistency, and overall quality of document reviews.
At Relativity Fest London, the company also showcased other innovative AI-driven tools, such as Relativity aiR for Privilege and Relativity aiR for Case Strategy. Relativity aiR for Privilege, which became available in the U.S. in April, employs generative AI to expedite the first-pass privilege review through automation. Meanwhile, Relativity aiR for Case Strategy, currently available to a select group of clients, simplifies tasks like fact extraction, crafting case narratives, and preparing for depositions. Jon Chan, Senior Managing Director at FTI Technology, expressed his enthusiasm for these advancements, noting, “Generative artificial intelligence is ushering in the next generation of technology in the legal field. Our e-discovery and innovation teams are excited about the potential of Relativity aiR and similar tools to enhance workflows alongside our consultants’ expertise in disputes and investigations.”
The EMEA community has played a pivotal role in advancing AI within the legal industry. Over the past year, there has been an 85% increase in RelativityOne data under management in the region, accompanied by the expansion of five Relativity partners and a 24% growth in RelativityOne customers. Relativity honored three EMEA AI Visionaries this year: Malik Kheribeche of Deloitte Switzerland, Ana Orantes of CMS, and Linda Sheehan of ENS. These individuals have been instrumental in exploring and promoting AI’s application in legal contexts, significantly contributing to the broader adoption and innovation of AI tools in the industry.
The closing keynote at Relativity Fest London introduced a new model called Legal Data Intelligence, which aims to demonstrate the value that legal professionals can bring through data analysis. Three founding members showcased the model’s application across various use cases, highlighting the role of AI and the emerging opportunities it presents. Beyond technological advancements, Relativity’s commitment to social impact was evident through its Justice for Change Programme. Launched at last year’s Relativity Fest London, the program seeks to address the gap in access to justice by providing organizations with essential technology. Since its inception, five approved matters have been addressed, including a collaboration between Relativity Partner FRP Advisory and Mnemonic, a non-governmental organization dedicated to documenting human rights violations in Syria.
The launch of Relativity aiR for Review signifies a significant leap forward in integrating AI within the legal sector. The tool’s capacity to enhance document review processes by improving speed, precision, and quality highlights the transformative potential of AI. The legal industry, long burdened by the tedious and time-consuming nature of document review, now has a robust solution to address these challenges.
The broader adoption of AI tools like aiR for Privilege and aiR for Case Strategy further exemplifies the industry’s shift towards embracing technology to streamline workflows and improve outcomes. The recognition of AI Visionaries within the EMEA community underscores the importance of individual contributions in driving technological advancements. Relativity’s commitment to social impact initiatives, such as the Justice for Change Programme, showcases the intersection of technology and social responsibility. By leveraging AI to address issues of racial and social justice, Relativity sets a precedent for how tech companies can contribute to broader societal goals.
Looking ahead, the adoption of AI-powered tools in the legal sector is likely to accelerate. As Relativity aiR for Review becomes generally available, a broader implementation across various regions is expected, further standardizing the use of AI in document review processes. This widespread adoption will likely lead to enhancements in AI capabilities, driven by user feedback and continuous technological advancements. The introduction of Legal Data Intelligence as a model suggests a future where data analysis becomes integral to legal practice. Legal professionals will likely need to develop new skills to effectively leverage data-driven insights, potentially leading to a shift in legal education and training.
Relativity’s focus on social impact initiatives signals a growing trend of technology companies integrating corporate social responsibility into their core strategies. Future developments may include expanded partnerships with non-governmental organizations and increased support for social justice initiatives, further demonstrating the positive potential of AI in addressing global challenges. As AI continues to evolve, its role in the legal industry will undoubtedly expand, offering new opportunities for efficiency, accuracy, and social impact. The future of legal practice is poised to be shaped by these technological advancements, paving the way for a more effective and equitable legal system.
