DataFort wins industry award for data availability and business continuity project with ‘Europe’s leading conference centre’ – Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in central London

The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre (QEIICC), the £11 million conference centre in central London and winner of ‘Europe’s Leading Conference Centre’ Award, and DataFort, the innovative developer of business continuity delivered as a managed service, have won the Business Continuity Project of the Year Award at the 2011 Datacentre Solutions Magazine Awards in a joint submission.

The Business Continuity Project of the Year Award is in recognition of an organisation’s implementation of a project, centred on providing enhanced levels of business continuity capabilities. Other finalists were eBay with Raritan and National Film Board of Canada with Atempo Digital Archive.

With a turnover in 2009 of £11 million, QEIICC has been providing leading conference facilities for over 24 years. The venue prides itself on its business-supporting technologies, including E3 wireless 100 mbs internet connectivity sophisticated telephony and state-of-the-art communications equipment including video conferencing.

Having worked successfully with DataFort on a number of projects over many years, in early 2010 QEIICC turned once again to the managed service provider to seek assistance with the design of a brand new business continuity strategy. QEIICC had realised that the tape-based system coupled with offsite backup previously used for disaster recovery was inadequate for the company’s needs because of the amount of time it would take to recover from either server failure or loss of access to the business premises.  This combined with the large IT support overhead devoted to managing the inefficient tape backup system made the new solution desirable.

DataFort’s Critical Care high availability service has not only improved the recovery speed of critical systems, but it has also consolidated and automated the backup policy for the entire organisation, even exceeding board and management policies by protecting its data both locally and on backup servers in Datafort’s Tier III remote data centres.

Beating a number of other vendors by offering a greater combination of features, improved usability and lower costs, the DataFort Managed Service exceeded QEIICC’s expectations for data protection and business continuity, offering a solution which has until very recently only been available to large enterprises.

Commenting on the industry award win, Marcie Terman DataFort Chief Executive comments, “We are delighted to win such a celebrated award and to achieve such praise and recognition from our industry peers. We are passionate about giving our customers the edge that true business continuity offers. This award is real acknowledgment of what we are bringing to the IT market; dedication coupled with expertise and innovation.”
